The International Woodball Federation (IWbF) is the global governing body responsible for the development, promotion, and regulation of Woodball worldwide. It brings together national Woodball associations and organizations from different countries while setting the official rules, competition standards, and playing regulations for the sport. The IWbF also organizes and supports major international events, including regional championships, international tournaments, and World Cup Woodball Championships, giving players from around the world the opportunity to compete at the highest level. Often compared with golf, Woodball offers a similar combination of skill, accuracy, strategy, and excitement, but with simpler rules and an easier learning curve. This makes Woodball an accessible and enjoyable sport for beginners, students, recreational players, and competitive athletes alike.
Woodball Association of India
Woodball India was established in the year 2002. The association develops both forms of the game.
Beach Woodball
Beach Woodball is played on sand, bringing a faster and more dynamic style to the sport. It is featured in the Asian Beach Games, while the Indian National Woodball Team also represents India in international competitions such as the Beach Woodball World Cup.
Lawn Woodball
Traditional Woodball is played on grass and follows a course of up to 12 fairways. The game can also be adapted for indoor venues or other suitable open spaces, making it a flexible and accessible sport for both recreational and competitive play.
History of Woodball
Woodball was invented in 1990 by Mr. Ming-Hui Weng, he just want to build a garden for his father to take a walk and enjoy the beautiful view in the scenic spot Nei-Shuang-His, where situated in Shih-lin, Taipei City. After mowing the weeds of the hillside, he found that there were terraced fields there, which can be developed as an outdoor exercise place.
It flashed through his mind that he could make a good use of this garden by designing it as a ball-playing ground. Under such motive, he was trying to create a ball sport, in which the playing-ball would not fly up (appropriate to be played on the grass ground) and the sport itself should be economic (neither expensive nor large ground), so that he could invite more friends to enjoy the fun of playing ball in the green field. After two years’ experiment and adjustment, the equipment and the regulation of the ball game have emerged finally as they are today.
The International Woodball Federation (“IWbF”) is the governing world body for the Game of Woodball, with members from the Woodball Associations and bodies from different Countries.
The IWbF establishes the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the game and also holds regular Regional International and World Cup Woodball Championships.
Woodball is similar to golf with all the excitement and thrill, although this game is far less complicated to learn. It is said that the Woodball game is actually a cross between golf and the game of croquette. It is a lawn game but can still be played indoors or on any open spaces.
Woodball is not among the top popular sports like Cricket, Hockey, Tennis or Football where big corporate groups proactively participate in helping/join the sports with huge finances in their training and championships.

Rules & Regulations
Woodball is a skill-based outdoor sport in which players use a specially designed woodball mallet to strike a wooden ball along a fairway and through a gate in the fewest possible strokes. The game combines accuracy, control, strategy, and consistency, making it suitable for competitive as well as recreational play. Under the International Woodball Federation (IWbF) rules, a standard course generally consists of 12 fairways, and competitions may be played as singles, doubles, mixed doubles, or team events. The basic objective is simple: start each fairway from the designated starting area, play the ball toward the gate, and successfully pass the ball through the gate while recording every stroke. In stroke competition, the player who completes the required fairways with the lowest total number of strokes wins. Players must follow the designated order of play, remain within the fairway boundaries, respect other players, and comply with the referee's instructions throughout the competition.

Woodball Association of India Statement of Anti-doping Policy
Statement
The Woodball Association of India (WbAI) is committed to promoting clean, fair and drug-free sport across all levels of Woodball in India. On 1 January 2021, WbAI signed the Collective Policy, confirming its commitment to follow the national and international standards established for anti-doping in sport.
Under this commitment, the Woodball Association of India agrees at all times to:
- Recognise and accept the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) as the National Anti-Doping Organisation designated by the Government of India and responsible for anti-doping matters relating to sport in India.
- Accept and follow the NADA Anti-Doping Policy and NADA Anti-Doping Rules, which are established in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code, as the foundation for preventing and addressing doping in Woodball and other sporting activities.
- Adopt the NADA Anti-Doping Rules directly, or by reference, within the governing documents, constitution, policies, rules and regulations of the Woodball Association of India. These provisions are binding on all members, athletes and participants operating under the jurisdiction of WbAI.
- Observe, implement and comply with the NADA Anti-Doping Policy and Anti-Doping Rules across the activities, competitions, training programmes and administrative functions conducted or governed by the Woodball Association of India.
The Woodball Association of India strongly opposes doping in sport and supports every athlete's right to participate in a safe, fair and drug-free sporting environment. WbAI is committed to educating and informing athletes, coaches, support personnel and other participants about anti-doping responsibilities, prohibited substances, testing procedures and the importance of clean sport.
Where appropriate, athletes participating in Woodball competitions in India or representing India at international Woodball events may be subject to anti-doping testing in accordance with applicable NADA rules and procedures. Through education, awareness and compliance, WbAI aims to protect the integrity of Woodball and support athletes who compete fairly.
Participation in activities governed by the Woodball Association of India requires athletes, athlete support personnel, coaches, officials and other persons under WbAI jurisdiction to comply with the applicable NADA Anti-Doping Policy, NADA Anti-Doping Rules and related anti-doping requirements.
In matters involving athlete testing and anti-doping results, WbAI is committed to maintaining confidentiality, accountability, fairness and due process. Where an alleged anti-doping rule violation occurs, the matter will be handled in accordance with the applicable procedures established by NADA and the relevant anti-doping regulations.
Any disciplinary proceedings relating to violations of anti-doping rules will follow the processes and provisions contained in the NADA Anti-Doping Rules, including the applicable procedures for investigation, results management, hearings, sanctions and appeals.

Accordingly, the NADA Anti-Doping Policy and Anti-Doping Rules, including any amendments made from time to time, shall apply to Woodball activities falling under the jurisdiction of WbAI and shall be treated as part of the rules and regulations governing Woodball in India.
WbAI remains committed to supporting the principles of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in protecting clean athletes, maintaining fair competition and strengthening the integrity of Indian Woodball.

By participating in or being associated with activities under the Woodball Association of India, these individuals and organisations agree to understand, respect and comply with the applicable anti-doping rules and procedures.
Through these measures, WbAI seeks to maintain a sporting environment built on fair play, athlete welfare, integrity, transparency and clean competition, while supporting the continued development of Woodball in India and Indian Woodball athletes at national and international levels.

Sponsor opportunities
Woodball is still an emerging sport compared with mainstream games such as cricket, hockey, tennis, and football, which often attract substantial corporate sponsorship and financial support. As a result, Woodball athletes and associations have fewer opportunities to secure funding for professional training, international championships, player development, equipment, and grassroots programs. Greater corporate partnerships and sponsorship can play an important role in strengthening Woodball in India and helping talented players compete successfully on national and international platforms.
